In 1772, during the First Partition of Poland, Austria reoccupied the pledged towns and Podolinec became a Hungarian town again after three hundred and sixty years. Nothing was destroyed and nobody moved, but everything administrative changed: the courts, the taxes, the language of officialdom, the county it belonged to. Being handed between states without being asked is one of the most ordinary experiences in the history of this part of Europe, and Podolinec has had it happen more often than most.Roku 1772, pri prvom delení Poľska, obsadilo Rakúsko zálohované mestá späť a Podolínec sa po tristošesťdesiatich rokoch stal opäť uhorským mestom. Nič sa nezborilo a nikto sa nesťahoval, no zmenilo sa všetko úradné: súdy, dane, jazyk úradov aj stolica, do ktorej patril. Byť odovzdaný medzi štátmi bez toho, aby sa niekto pýtal, patrí k najbežnejším skúsenostiam dejín tejto časti Európy — a Podolínec to zažil častejšie než väčšina.
