In the autumn of 1944, after the Slovak National Uprising was put down, German forces occupied the region and held it until the front arrived. On 25 January 1945 the Red Army drove the Wehrmacht out of Podolinec — three days before Poprad, because the front was coming down the Poprad valley from the north-east.Na jeseň 1944, po potlačení Slovenského národného povstania, obsadili kraj nemecké jednotky a držali ho až do príchodu frontu. 25. januára 1945 vytlačila Červená armáda wehrmacht z Podolínca — tri dni pred Popradom, pretože front postupoval popradskou dolinou od severovýchodu.
