The Carpathian passes north of the village were the front line of the First World War through the winter of 1914–15. Russian armies pushed south over the ridges, Austro-Hungarian armies pushed them back, and the fighting in snow and forest killed men in numbers neither side published at the time. The villages of the district were emptied, requisitioned and shelled; the small walled military cemeteries scattered across the north-east are the most visible thing the war left behind. Men from here served in an army that was fighting on its own doorstep.Karpatské priesmyky severne od dediny boli cez zimu 1914 – 1915 frontovou líniou prvej svetovej vojny. Ruské armády sa tlačili cez hrebene na juh, rakúsko-uhorské ich tlačili späť a boje v snehu a v lese zabíjali mužov v počtoch, ktoré vtedy nezverejnila ani jedna strana. Dediny okresu boli vyprázdnené, vyrekvirované a ostreľované; malé ohradené vojenské cintoríny roztrúsené po celom severovýchode sú to najviditeľnejšie, čo po vojne zostalo. Muži odtiaľto slúžili v armáde, ktorá bojovala priamo pred vlastným prahom.
