Svidník is a district seat in one of the poorest parts of Slovakia, and long-term work abroad is an ordinary fact of family life here. Two things fill the town: the anniversary of the battle in the autumn, and the festival of Rusyn and Ukrainian culture in the summer. The military museum became a department of the Piešťany military museum in 2004, and the battlefield itself — from the Kapišová crossroads to the border at Dukla, with the Valley of Death, the cemeteries and the memorial and tower at the pass — is protected as a national cultural monument. It is one of the few places in the country where the twentieth century is the main thing there is to see.Svidník je okresné mesto v jednej z najchudobnejších častí Slovenska a dlhodobá práca v zahraničí je tu bežnou súčasťou rodinného života. Mesto naplnia dve udalosti: jesenné výročie bitky a letný festival rusínskej a ukrajinskej kultúry. Vojenské múzeum sa v roku 2004 stalo múzejným oddelením Vojenského múzea Piešťany a samo bojisko — od križovatky pri Kapišovej po hraničný priechod Dukla, s Údolím smrti, cintorínmi, pamätníkom a vyhliadkovou vežou na priesmyku — je chránené ako národná kultúrna pamiatka. Je to jedno z mála miest v krajine, kde je hlavnou vecou, ktorú vidieť, dvadsiate storočie.
