Austria-Hungary ended in 1918 and Zamagurie became part of Czechoslovakia — but not all of it. When the frontier with Poland was settled in 1920, the whole western part of this district, fourteen villages, was awarded to Poland, Nedeca among them. The castle whose estate the town had once belonged to became a Polish monument on the far bank of the river. Spišská Stará Ves went from the middle of its own district to the edge of a state, and Slovak accounts date its twentieth-century decline from exactly that moment.Rakúsko-Uhorsko roku 1918 zaniklo a Zamagurie sa stalo súčasťou Československa — ale nie celé. Keď sa roku 1920 určila hranica s Poľskom, pripadla Poľsku celá západná časť okresu, štrnásť obcí, medzi nimi aj Nedeca. Hrad, ku ktorého panstvu mesto kedysi patrilo, sa stal poľskou pamiatkou na druhom brehu rieky. Spišská Stará Ves sa zo stredu vlastného okresu ocitla na okraji štátu a slovenské pramene datujú jej úpadok v 20. storočí presne od tejto chvíle.
