13th century The old villageStará Ves

The name says exactly what the place was: Antiqua Villa, the old village — the settlement that was already here when the newer, planned villages were being laid out around it. Hungarian accounts put a settlement on this spot at the beginning of the thirteenth century, before the Mongols came in 1241; Slovak ones give the first written mention as 1309. Both can be true at once, because a place can be old and still wait a hundred years to turn up in somebody's charter. It stood on the road along the Dunajec, in the lands of the Berzeviczy family, whose castle at Nedeca watched the river a few kilometres north.Meno hovorí presne to, čím miesto bolo: Antiqua Villa, stará ves — osada, ktorá tu už stála, keď sa okolo nej vymeriavali novšie, plánovité dediny. Maďarské pramene kladú osídlenie na toto miesto na začiatok 13. storočia, teda pred vpádom Mongolov roku 1241; slovenské uvádzajú prvú písomnú zmienku roku 1309. Oboje môže platiť naraz, lebo miesto môže byť staré a napriek tomu čakať sto rokov, kým sa objaví v niečej listine. Ležalo pri ceste popri Dunajci, v majetkoch Berzeviczyovcov, ktorých hrad Nedeca strážil rieku pár kilometrov na sever.
