In 1878 a huge fire went through the town yet again, and the shape it has today — the long square, the low houses along it — dates from the rebuilding after that fire. One building kept coming through everything: the Gothic parish church of the Assumption, with a chancel of the fourteenth century and a main altar of 1765. In these decades Zamagurie was poor even by the standards of upland Spiš, and its people left for America in large numbers, as their neighbours across the river did.Roku 1878 prešiel mestom opäť obrovský požiar a podoba, ktorú má dnes — dlhé námestie a nízke domy pozdĺž neho — pochádza z obnovy po ňom.
