1427 – 1480 Eighty gates, and a road that forksOsemdesiat brán a cesta, ktorá sa delí

A tax survey of 1427 counted eighty portae in Lipany — literally "gates", the unit the kingdom used for taxing a village, roughly one per peasant holding with an entrance wide enough to drive a loaded cart through. Eighty made it a substantial place by the standards of these hills. In the same century the estate's administration moved down from the castle at Kamenica into the town itself, and the reason was the road: Lipany sat where the trade route forked, one branch running north-east towards Stará Ľubovňa, the other up the Lipiansky brook to the saddle and down to the Poprad at Plaveč. Rebrá klenby v kostolnej svätyni, spočívajúce na jednoduchých konzolách s listovým ornamentom, sú datované okolo roku 1480.
