1312 – 1360 Seven limes, and a priest called HenrichSedem líp a farár menom Henrich

The town is first named in writing in 1312, in Latin, as Septem Tyliis — "at the seven limes". Three years later a charter writes it Sybunlendum, the German form, and in 1352 Hethas, the Hungarian one; all of them, and Lipany too, say exactly the same thing. That 1312 document names a parish priest here, Henrich, so there was a church before there was a written town, and the parish probably existed by 1302 or earlier. The church of St Martin was founded in this century and is credited to Rikolf II of Kamenica, who died in 1360. At this stage Lipany belonged to the domain of the castle on the crag.V písomnostiach sa mesto prvý raz objavuje v roku 1312, po latinsky, ako Septem Tyliis — „pri siedmich lipách“.
