The Habsburgs spent the eighteenth century trying to bring their Protestant subjects back to Rome, first by force and later by patient competition. In Štítnik that history is visible as an address: the Catholic church of St Jude Thaddeus was built between 1749 and 1753, a few minutes' walk from the Lutheran hall church, and the two congregations have shared the village ever since. The Lutherans answered in their own way, putting a second organ, dated 1776, into the old church. Štítnik produced churchmen of its own as well, among them the Lutheran superintendent Samuel Antoni (1664–1738).Habsburgovci sa celé 18. storočie usilovali priviesť protestantských poddaných späť k Rímu — najprv silou, neskôr trpezlivou konkurenciou. V Štítniku vidno tie dejiny ako adresu: katolícky Kostol svätého Júdu Tadeáša postavili v rokoch 1749 – 1753 pár minút chôdze od evanjelického halového kostola a odvtedy si obec delia dva zbory. Evanjelici odpovedali po svojom — do starého kostola pribudol druhý organ s letopočtom 1776. Zo Štítnika pochádzali aj vlastní cirkevní vzdelanci, medzi nimi evanjelický superintendent Samuel Antoni (1664 – 1738).
