The Mongol invasionVpád Mongolov
ŠtítnikŠtítnik
Štítnik first appears in writing in 1243, in a charter of King Béla IV — that is, two years after the Mongol invasion, in the middle of the king's programme of granting land on condition that it be settled and defended. The same charter is said to carry the first written mention of an iron hammer mill in the Kingdom of Hungary: a water-driven hammer for beating smelted iron into bars. That is what this valley was for. Ore came out of the hills above, charcoal came out of the woods on them, and the stream turned the wheels.Štítnik sa prvý raz spomína v roku 1243, v listine kráľa Bela IV.
