This is a real argument, and worth watching. One reading takes the first mention back to the end of July 1284, in a document about a market on the Tibava estate, written Vasaros Tyba; a second record follows on 16 August 1334, and market-town rights are dated to 1351. The historian Ferdinand Uličný, who catalogued the settlements of this region, puts the first reliable mention of Sobrance itself as late as 1409, spelled Zobranch, and reads the earlier documents as being about the neighbouring estate rather than about this town. Both readings agree on the substance: a small market settlement growing out of the Tibava estate on the road east. Which year you print depends on what you think the word in the document refers to — and that is what a lot of medieval history actually consists of.Toto je naozajstný spor a oplatí sa ho sledovať.
