Vinné CastleViniansky hrad

The village of Vinné is first mentioned in 1249, its mill in 1335 and its vineyards in 1336 — the name belongs to the same family of words as víno, wine. The castle was part of the estate of the lords of Michalovce, a branch of the Kaplon kindred: a regional seat, not a royal fortress. In 1312 it was attacked and damaged by the sons of the palatine Amadé Aba — the palatine was the king's deputy and the highest officer in the kingdom, and this family ruled eastern Hungary almost as its own state until King Charles Robert broke them at the battle of Rozhanovce, just east of Košice, on 15 June that same year. The castle itself is first named in a document only in 1335, a good reminder that a building is usually older than its first mention.
