The church changed hands between Lutherans and Catholics several times during the religious wars and was finally kept by the Roman Catholic side in 1709. Seventy-five years later Emperor Joseph II's Patent of Toleration let Protestants build again, with conditions — no tower, no door onto the street — and the village's Lutherans put up a tolerance church in 1784, adding the bell tower only in 1868, once that was allowed. Meanwhile a third settlement appears: Ponická Huta, first documented in 1718 as the Poniky blast furnace, an ironworks placed where the ore, the charcoal and the water were. A bigger furnace was built there in 1780.Kostol počas náboženských vojen niekoľkokrát menil majiteľa medzi luteránmi a katolíkmi a napokon ho v roku 1709 udržala katolícka strana. O sedemdesiatpäť rokov neskôr dovolil tolerančný patent cisára Jozefa II. evanjelikom znova stavať — s podmienkami: bez veže a bez vchodu z ulice — a tunajší evanjelici si v roku 1784 postavili tolerančný kostol; zvonicu k nemu pridali až v roku 1868, keď to už bolo možné. Medzitým pribudla tretia osada: Ponická Huta, prvý raz doložená roku 1718 ako ponická vysoká pec, teda železiareň postavená tam, kde bola ruda, drevené uhlie a voda. Väčšiu pec tam postavili v roku 1780.
