In 1605 the troops of Stephen Bocskai, leading the first of the great anti-Habsburg risings, plundered the village — proof that a Hungarian army could do as much damage here as an Ottoman one. In 1663 the Ottomans took the fortress of Nové Zámky and their raiding reached deep into these valleys; Poniky was attacked from four directions, the church burned, and the village's older written records burned with it. That fire is why parts of this village's history now have to be reconstructed out of other people's documents.V roku 1605 vydrancovali obec vojská Štefana Bocskaia, vodcu prvého z veľkých protihabsburských povstaní — dôkaz, že uhorské vojsko tu vedelo narobiť rovnakú škodu ako osmanské. Roku 1663 dobyli Osmani pevnosť Nové Zámky a ich nájazdy zasiahli hlboko do týchto dolín; na Poniky zaútočili zo štyroch strán, kostol zhorel a s ním aj staršie písomnosti obce. Práve pre tento požiar treba dnes časť dejín tejto dediny skladať z listín iných ľudí.
