The worst day in the village's recorded history is 6 January 1678, in the middle of the Thököly uprising, when raiders — recorded here as Turks — killed 23 householders and carried off 239 children and 81 adults, 34 men and 22 women. Only 46 of them are recorded as ever coming back. Read that again: not a battle, not a siege — a village emptied of its children on a January morning.
