Aluminium is still the town's business, but not as it was. The smelter's primary electrolysis was shut down because of electricity prices, the last cells going cold in January 2023; the casthouse continues as a recycling and remelting works. A memorandum agreed with the government in 2025 sets out a plan — no more than a plan — to restart primary production in 2027. Around the plant an industrial park of aluminium foundries and car-component factories now uses the metal and the skills the smelter created.Hliník je stále biznisom mesta, no nie takým ako kedysi.
