Štefan Marko Daxner was born in Tisovec in 1822 and died here. He was one of the leaders of the Slovak movement in the revolution of 1848–49, and in 1861 he was the principal author of the Memorandum of the Slovak Nation, the document that set out what Slovaks wanted from the Hungarian state: a recognised territory of their own, their own officials, and above all schools teaching in Slovak. The government gave the Memorandum nothing. What it produced instead was a decision to build those schools with money collected from the nation itself — and Daxner then chaired the patronage committee of the first of them, the Slovak gymnasium opened at Revúca in 1862.Štefan Marko Daxner sa narodil v Tisovci roku 1822 a v Tisovci aj zomrel.
