The scattered farms in the upper valley had grown into a community of their own, and in 1890 they asked to stop being part of Detva. The Hungarian Ministry of the Interior permitted the separation on 21 October 1890, and the county assembly of Zvolen confirmed the founding charter on 5 September 1891. The new municipality was Hriňová, and it took about six thousand people and an enormous area of hillside with it. Detva had been the mother settlement of the whole upper Slatina; from 1891 it was one town among several.Roztrúsené usadlosti v hornej časti doliny narástli na samostatné spoločenstvo a v roku 1890 požiadali, aby prestali byť súčasťou Detvy. Uhorské ministerstvo vnútra povolilo osamostatnenie 21. októbra 1890 a zvolenský stoličný výbor schválil zakladajúcu listinu 5. septembra 1891. Novou obcou bola Hriňová a odniesla si asi šesťtisíc obyvateľov a obrovský kus strání. Detva bola dovtedy materskou obcou celej hornej Slatiny, od roku 1891 bola jedným mestečkom z viacerých.
