Late that same evening Milan Hodža arrived from Budapest — he too still knew nothing of Prague — and had the text changed before it was published: the demand for separate Slovak representation at the peace conference was dropped, so that Czechs and Slovaks would speak abroad with one voice. Because the minutes then went missing for years, and because the printed text was not word for word what everyone had signed, the Declaration was fought over for the whole interwar period. In 1928 the deputy Vojtech Tuka wrote in the newspaper Slovák that a secret clause obliged the state to renegotiate Slovakia's position after ten years, and that otherwise the constitution would simply stop applying here. The surviving signatories denied it, Tuka was stripped of immunity and sentenced for treason in 1929, and Hungarian archives opened after the Second World War showed he had been working for Budapest all along.Neskoro večer toho istého dňa pricestoval z Budapešti Milan Hodža — ani on ešte o Prahe nevedel — a text dal pred zverejnením upraviť: vypustila sa požiadavka na samostatné zastúpenie Slovákov na mierovej konferencii, aby Česi a Slováci vystupovali navonok jednotne. Žijúci účastníci porady to popreli a sám iniciátor uznesenia zdôraznil, že o nijaké ultimátum nešlo; Tuku zbavili imunity, v roku 1929 ho odsúdili za vlastizradu a maďarské archívy sprístupnené po druhej svetovej vojne ukázali, že pracoval pre Budapešť.
