GalantaGalanta
There was no castle to rule this country from, so it was ruled from manor houses and from the county seat. In 1421 the Galanta estate came into the hands of the family afterwards known as the Esterházys of Galánta: they took their predicate, the of in their title, from this small market village. Over the next three centuries that family gave the kingdom two palatines — the highest officers under the king — and held estates stretching across Hungary into Austria. The village stayed a village. It was the name that travelled. Dedina zostala dedinou. Putovalo meno.
