Under Austria-Hungary Púchov finally built the church its Protestant majority had been waiting for. Work ran from 1864 to 1880, to a design by Michal Urbánek, a builder from Vsetín just over the Moravian border — which tells you how close the two sides of these mountains still were. It replaced a plain toleration-era prayer house, the sort Protestants had been allowed after 1781: no tower, no front onto the street, nothing that looked like a church from outside. The new one had all three.Za Rakúsko-Uhorska si Púchov konečne postavil kostol, na ktorý jeho evanjelická väčšina dlho čakala. Stavalo sa v rokoch 1864 až 1880 podľa návrhu Michala Urbánka, staviteľa zo Vsetína hneď za moravskou hranicou — čo dobre ukazuje, aké blízke tie dve strany hôr stále boli. Nahradil skromnú tolerančnú modlitebňu, aké protestanti smeli mať po roku 1781: bez veže, bez priečelia do ulice, zvonku nič, čo by pripomínalo kostol. Nový kostol mal všetko troje.
