In 1469 King Matthias Corvinus granted Púchov to the Marczibányi family, and they held it for close to four hundred years, until the middle of the nineteenth century. That is an unusually long grip for one family on one Slovak town, and it shows: the estate, the manor buildings and the market all belonged to them, and townspeople who wanted anything had to ask.
