The forest railway closed in 1972. Nine years later, in 1981, the most powerful hydroelectric plant in Slovakia went into service further up the Čierny Váh valley: a pumped-storage station of about 735 megawatts. It does not really generate energy so much as store it. At night, when demand is low and the big thermal and nuclear plants cannot simply be switched off, it pumps water more than four hundred metres uphill into a reservoir cut into the karst plateau at 1,160 metres; by day, when demand peaks, it lets the water fall back through the turbines. It stands in the neighbouring district, but the valley road that reaches it is Teplička's valley.
