In 1655 Swedish armies overran Poland in the invasion Poles call the Deluge; Kraków fell, and the royal regalia kept on Wawel hill — the crowns, sceptres and orbs of the Polish kings — had to be got out of the country. They were carried south over the mountains to Ľubovňa, which was legally Hungarian ground but Polish-administered, and therefore safe. The treasure stayed in the castle from 1655 until 1661. King John II Casimir came here himself in 1656, and in December 1683 John III Sobieski stopped at the castle on his way home from the relief of Vienna.V roku 1655 zaplavili Poľsko švédske vojská pri vpáde, ktorý Poliaci volajú potopa; Krakov padol a korunovačné klenoty uložené na Waweli — koruny, žezlá a jablká poľských kráľov — bolo treba dostať z krajiny.
