1918 – 1926 "Only now did they learn that they were Slovaks"„Až teraz sa dozvedeli, že sú Slováci“

Thirty-two men of Zborov were killed in the war, and about a quarter of the villagers who had been evacuated never came back at all. Those who did returned in the second half of May 1915 and began clearing rubble with money sent by the Hungarian city of Debrecen. On 22 December 1918 a village assembly passed a resolution declaring for the new Czechoslovak state, and after a county gathering early in 1919 the chronicler wrote a sentence worth reading twice: "only now did the people of Zborov learn for certain that they were Slovaks, only now did they see that the Slovak nation lives." In 1919 the Hungarian Red Army briefly occupied the village. In 1926 the castle hill was declared a protected area — the first time anyone had officially cared about it in centuries.Vo vojne padlo tridsaťdva Zborovčanov a asi štvrtina evakuovaných obyvateľov sa už nikdy nevrátila. V roku 1926 vyhlásili hradný kopec za chránené územie — prvý raz sa oň po stáročiach niekto oficiálne postaral.
