Zborov Castle (Makovica)Zborovský hrad (Makovica)
The middle of the fifteenth century nearly emptied Makovica. Polish armies crossed the estate in 1439–44, again in 1471 and again in 1491–92; the mercenaries of Ján Jiskra and the roving bands called the Bratríci — literally "little brothers", soldiers left over from the Hussite wars who lived off whatever country they were standing in — took what they wanted; and the serfs voted with their feet. The tax figures are brutal: 1,321 households in 1427, and 293 and a half in 1494. When the Cudar line died out in 1470, King Matthias Corvinus gave the castle and the estate to the lords of Rozhanovce, who tried to reform the rents to stop the bleeding. It did not work. Nepomohlo to.
