Between 1304 and 1321 the village was held by Matúš Čák of Trenčín, the lord who ran most of western Slovakia as though it were his own kingdom and only lost it by dying. From 1386 the estate is in the hands of the Forgách family — Forgáčovci in Slovak — and they kept most of Kostoľany until 1945, close to six centuries under one name. The church grew with them: the nave was widened westwards, a tower was built onto it, and a gallery was put in above the entrance — the raised pew from which a landowning family heard mass above the heads of everyone else.V rokoch 1304 až 1321 držal obec Matúš Čák Trenčiansky, pán, ktorý vládol väčšine západného Slovenska ako vlastnému kráľovstvu a prišiel oň až smrťou. Od roku 1386 je panstvo v rukách Forgáčovcov a tí si väčšinu Kostolian udržali až do roku 1945 – takmer šesť storočí pod jedným menom. Kostol rástol spolu s nimi: loď rozšírili na západ, pristavali k nej vežu a nad vchodom zriadili emporu, teda vyvýšenú tribúnu, z ktorej zemepánska rodina počúvala omšu nad hlavami ostatných.
