The Mongol invasionVpád Mongolov
Kostoľany pod TribečomKostoľany pod Tribečom
The Mongol armies crossed the Carpathians in 1241 and showed the kingdom how little its earth-and-timber forts were worth. Nothing records this village's church being burned in that year; what the invasion changed here was who was in charge and what got built next. Between 1241 and 1253 Kostoľany is recorded in the hands of a master Ondrej of the Hont-Poznan kindred — the family that in those same decades raised the stone castle of Gýmeš on the ridge above neighbouring Jelenec. From then on the village belonged to a castle estate, and that single fact shapes the next seven hundred years of its life.V roku 1241 prekročili Karpaty mongolské vojská a kráľovstvo zistilo, akú malú cenu majú jeho hlinené a drevené hradiská. Odvtedy patrila dedina k hradnému panstvu a práve to určilo jej ďalších sedemsto rokov.
