By the middle of the nineteenth century the estate had given up the castle for good, and once there is no roof, decay goes quickly. Nothing dramatic happened here — no siege, no explosion, nothing of the kind is documented — the castle was simply out-lived by comfort. The revolution of 1848 abolished serfdom across the Kingdom of Hungary, and with it the arrangement the castle had existed to run: the villagers were nobody's subjects any more, and a fortress on a ridge had no purpose left at all.V polovici 19. storočia panstvo hrad definitívne opustilo a keď nie je strecha, skaza ide rýchlo. Nestalo sa tu nič dramatické – žiadne obliehanie, žiadny výbuch, nič také nie je doložené – hrad jednoducho prežilo pohodlie. Revolučný rok 1848 zrušil v Uhorsku poddanstvo a s ním aj poriadok, kvôli ktorému hrad existoval: dedinčania už neboli ničími poddanými a pevnosť na hrebeni stratila poslednú funkciu.
