The village first appears in writing in 1113 — the year of the great charter of the abbey on Zobor above Nitra, the document that first names dozens of places in this part of the country. In 1113 there was no stone castle on the ridge yet: this was ordinary settled land on the edge of the royal forest, held for the king and administered from Nitra. What made the difference here was the ground itself — oak forest, a spur with a view over the whole plain, and one narrow way up along it.Obec sa prvý raz spomína v roku 1113 – v roku veľkej listiny zoborského opátstva nad Nitrou, dokumentu, ktorý po prvý raz menuje desiatky miest v tomto kraji. V roku 1113 na hrebeni ešte žiadny kamenný hrad nestál: bola to obyčajná osídlená krajina na okraji kráľovských lesov, spravovaná z Nitry. Rozhodujúca tu bola samotná poloha – dubový les, ostroh s výhľadom na celú rovinu a jediný úzky prístup po hrebeni.
