Castles and lordsHrady a páni

The first castle was small and businesslike: an early Gothic wall around a triangular courtyard, with a square tower on the south side that was both a residence and the last line of defence. Before the end of the thirteenth century a second tower had been added. Everything the village was — its fields, its labour, its dues — belonged to that enclosure on the ridge, and the settlement below existed to feed it. That relationship is what the words estate village mean, and here it lasted into the nineteenth century. Presne to znamená spojenie poddanská dedina a trvalo to tu až do 19. storočia.
