The oldest thing at Bíňa is not a building but the ground. The village sits inside a system of earth ramparts and ditches enclosing a very large area — among the biggest early medieval earthworks in the country. Who raised them, and exactly when, is still argued over; the ninth to the eleventh century is the range usually given. One reading makes them a stronghold of the Great Moravian period, another an early frontier fort of the young Kingdom of Hungary guarding the crossing of the Hron. Earth is far harder to date than a charter, which is why nobody has closed the argument.Najstaršou pamiatkou Bíne nie je stavba, ale samotná zem. Dedina leží vnútri sústavy valov a priekop, ktoré uzatvárajú naozaj veľkú plochu – patria k najrozsiahlejším včasnostredovekým opevneniam u nás. Kto ich nasypal a kedy presne, sa dodnes rieši; najčastejšie sa uvádza rozpätie od 9. po 11. storočie. Podľa jedného výkladu ide o veľkomoravské hradisko, podľa druhého o pohraničnú pevnosť mladého Uhorska, ktorá strážila brod cez Hron. Hlina sa datuje oveľa ťažšie ako listina, a preto tento spor zatiaľ nikto neuzavrel.
