After the failed siege of Vienna in 1683 the allied armies drove the Ottomans back down the Danube; the battle fought at Párkány — today Štúrovo, a short way from here — was one of those defeats, and Esztergom was retaken that October. But the record for Bíňa says something uncomfortable: in that same year, 1683, the village was laid waste by the Polish relief army — the allies, not the enemy — and the rotunda was wrecked at the same time. It is worth remembering the next time somebody says a monument in Slovakia was "destroyed by the Turks": armies under every flag lived off the country they marched through.Po neúspešnom obliehaní Viedne v roku 1683 hnali spojenci osmanskú armádu späť po Dunaji; bitka pri Parkane – dnešnom Štúrove, kúsok odtiaľto – bola jednou z tých porážok a Ostrihom sa v októbri vrátil do kresťanských rúk. Pramene o Bíni však hovoria niečo nepríjemné: v tom istom roku 1683 dedinu spustošili poľské pomocné vojská – teda spojenci, nie nepriateľ – a vtedy utrpela aj rotunda. Oplatí sa to zapamätať si vždy, keď niekto povie, že pamiatku „zničili Turci“: z krajiny, cez ktorú tiahli, žili armády pod každou zástavou.
