KomárnoKomárno
In 1663 the Ottomans took Nové Zámky, the fortress that had shielded this whole stretch of the Danube, and the shock of that defeat produced a second fortress at Komárno. Work on the New Fortress began after 1663 and was finished in 1673 under the engineer Franz Wymes; it was joined to the Old Fortress to make one continuous system. Between 1673 and 1683 it was strengthened again, while Imre Thököly's rebel army and its Ottoman allies campaigned across the region — and Komárno was not taken. The one thing that did serious damage in these years was the river itself: the flood of 1682 wrecked large parts of the works. V rokoch 1673 – 1683 ju ešte zosilnili, kým krajom tiahli povstalci Imricha Thökölyho so svojimi osmanskými spojencami — Komárno však nepadlo. Skutočnú škodu v tých rokoch narobila sama rieka: povodeň roku 1682 zničila veľkú časť opevnení.
