No source tells us what happened to the castle at the confluence when the Mongol armies swept through in 1241 and 1242, so nobody should claim it was stormed. What is certain is the answer the kingdom gave afterwards. King Béla IV concluded that wooden forts and open villages could not be defended, and spent the rest of his reign pushing stone castles and chartering towns that could pay for walls. On 1 April 1265 he granted Komárno the status and privileges of a town — that charter is the visible edge of the rebuilding programme, and the reason Slovakia is covered in stone castles built after the invasion rather than before it.Žiadny prameň nehovorí, čo sa s hradom na sútoku stalo počas mongolského vpádu v rokoch 1241 a 1242, takže nikto by nemal tvrdiť, že ho dobyli. Isté je len to, čím na vpád odpovedalo kráľovstvo. Belo IV. si uvedomil, že drevené hrádky a otvorené dediny sa ubrániť nedajú, a zvyšok vlády venoval podpore kamenných hradov a miest s výsadami, ktoré si vedeli zaplatiť hradby. 1. apríla 1265 udelil Komárnu mestské práva — táto listina je viditeľným okrajom obnovy a zároveň vysvetlením, prečo je Slovensko pokryté kamennými hradmi postavenými až po vpáde, nie pred ním.
