King Matthias Corvinus liked Komárno and had a Renaissance palace built for himself inside the castle, which he used as a retreat. The decision that mattered far more was military: he set up the kingdom's royal Danube flotilla and based it here. From then on Komárno was not a market town that happened to have a castle, but a naval and military station on the water. When the Ottoman wars arrived two generations later, the ships, the yards and the crews were already in place.Kráľ Matej Korvín mal Komárno rád a dal si v hrade postaviť renesančný palác, kam chodieval oddychovať. Komárno tak prestalo byť trhovým mestečkom s hradom a stalo sa vojenským a lodným prístavom. Keď o dve generácie neskôr prišli turecké vojny, lode, dielne aj posádky tu už boli.
