After November 1989 the district lost the industry that had employed it: the ore mines around Rožňava closed through the 1990s and the works that depended on them went with them. The railways that had made Plešivec a junction went quiet too. Passenger trains stopped running up the Štítnik valley in 2003 and on the Muráň line in 2011, leaving one main line and a set of rusting branches. The station is still there, but it is a station on one line now.Po novembri 1989 stratil okres priemysel, ktorý ho zamestnával: rudné bane pri Rožňave sa počas deväťdesiatych rokov zavreli a závody, ktoré na nich viseli, s nimi. Stíchli aj železnice, ktoré z Plešivca urobili uzol. Osobné vlaky do Štítnickej doliny prestali chodiť v roku 2003, na muránskej trati v roku 2011, a zostala hlavná trať a niekoľko hrdzavejúcich odbočiek. Stanica tu stále je — lenže je to už stanica na jedinej trati.
