The family took its name from this village and ruled Gemer from it, holding the river crossing and the mouth of the Štítnik valley; the rock at Krásna Hôrka, which everyone associates with the Bebeks today, came later. In the fourteenth century they built the church, dedicated it to St George, endowed it and were buried in it, and its wall paintings — in a style showing Italian influence — belong to the same fourteenth- and fifteenth-century wave that painted parish churches all across Gemer. A tax record of 1427 counts fifty-two taxable households here, which for the time is a substantial place rather than a hamlet.
