Several forges survive along the Bodva as protected technical monuments — a timber and stone shed over a wheel race, with the hammer, the hearth and the bellows in place — and one is kept in working order and fired for visitors; a water-driven hammer forge here is a branch of the Slovak Technical Museum. Access usually depends on whoever holds the key rather than on posted opening hours, so it has to be arranged in advance. And the community is still counted: the 2021 census recorded 415 Germans in Medzev, about ten per cent of the town. That makes this one of the very few places in Slovakia where the census still finds a German community at all, and it is the reason the Mantak dialect can still be heard.Pozdĺž Bodvy sa zachovalo niekoľko hámrov ako chránené technické pamiatky — drevená a kamenná kolňa nad náhonom, v nej kladivo, vyhňa a mechy na svojom mieste — a jeden sa udržiava v prevádzkyschopnom stave a pre návštevníkov ho rozkúria; jeden z vodných hámrov je pobočkou Slovenského technického múzea. Prístup zvyčajne závisí skôr od toho, kto má kľúč, než od vyvesených hodín, preto sa treba dohodnúť vopred. A spoločenstvo tu stále rátajú: sčítanie roku 2021 zaznamenalo v Medzeve 415 Nemcov, teda asi desatinu mesta. Je to jedno z mála miest na Slovensku, kde sčítanie ešte vôbec nejakú nemeckú komunitu nájde — a práve preto tu mantáčtinu ešte počuť.
