Under the Habsburgs the valley settled down and rebuilt. The Gothic parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Medzev was remodelled in Baroque taste between 1732 and 1735, and in the middle of the same century the monastery at Jasov was re-founded and rebuilt in the Baroque form visitors see today, with its frescoed library. This was the age when the number of forges along the Bodva really multiplied, and when the German-speaking community of the valley — who call themselves Mantáci and speak a dialect they call mantáčtina — took the shape it kept until the twentieth century.Za Habsburgovcov sa dolina upokojila a obnovila. Gotický farský Kostol narodenia Panny Márie v Medzeve prestavali barokovo v rokoch 1732 – 1735 a v polovici toho istého storočia obnovili aj kláštor v Jasove a postavili ho v barokovej podobe, akú návštevník vidí dodnes, aj s freskovou knižnicou.
