On the wooded spur above the town lie the earthworks of a large hillfort raised in the ninth century, in the time of Great Moravia — the first Slavic state to cover this country. It was one of the more important fortified places in this corner of the kingdom-to-be: a ring of banks and ditches on a hill you can see the Danube plain from, and a refuge for the farmers living below it. People went on using the hill long after Great Moravia collapsed; the finds run into the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Nothing of it stands today, because a fort built of earth and timber never leaves anything else behind.Na zalesnenej ostrohe nad mestom sa dodnes črtajú valy veľkého hradiska z 9. storočia, z čias Veľkej Moravy — prvého slovanského štátu na tomto území. Patrilo k významnejším opevneným miestam v tomto kúte budúceho kráľovstva: prstenec valov a priekop na kopci, odkiaľ dovidieť na podunajskú rovinu, a útočisko pre roľníkov, čo hospodárili pod ním. Kopec sa využíval ešte dlho po zániku Veľkej Moravy, nálezy siahajú do 13. a 14. storočia. Nič z hradiska nestojí — po opevnení z dreva a hliny ani nič iné nezostáva.
