Revište kept a small garrison into the late eighteenth century, and then its usefulness simply ran out: artillery had made a castle of this kind pointless, the wars were over, and nobody wanted to live in it. A fire finished it and it was never rebuilt — by the nineteenth century it was the ruin you can walk into today. The town below went on with its own trade, which was wood: timber floated and hauled down from the Vtáčnik and the Štiavnica Hills, and charcoal burned in the forests for the smelters of the mining towns.Revište malo malú posádku ešte koncom osemnásteho storočia a potom sa jeho užitočnosť jednoducho minula: delostrelectvo urobilo z takéhoto hradu nezmysel, vojny sa skončili a bývať v ňom nikto nechcel. Dorazil ho požiar a už ho nikto neobnovil — v devätnástom storočí z neho bola tá zrúcanina, do ktorej sa dnes dá vojsť. Mesto pod ním žilo ďalej svojím remeslom, a tým bolo drevo: plavené a zvážané z Vtáčnika a Štiavnických vrchov, a drevené uhlie pálené v lesoch pre huty banských miest.
