In the 1440s Revište was held by the Bohemian companies of Ján Jiskra, the commander hired to hold this part of the kingdom for an infant king, whose garrisons sat on castles all along the Hron. King Matthias Corvinus finally took the castle in 1467 and gave it in 1468 to Archbishop János Vitéz, who died in 1472. In 1479 the king granted it to Bishop Orbán Dóczy, and the Dóczy family then held Revište and Žarnovica for nearly two hundred years.
