Archaeologists have found a settlement on the ground of the modern town dating from the later hill-fort period — the centuries of Great Moravia and just after it. Nothing written survives from then: no charter names the place, no chronicler mentions the springs. What we have instead is what people left in the soil, dug up and dated by excavation. That gap is worth remembering when you read the next entry, because the first written mention of a place is a fact about a document, not about when people arrived.Na území dnešného mesta zistili archeológovia sídlisko z mladšej doby hradištnej — teda z čias Veľkej Moravy a krátko po nej. Z tohto obdobia sa nezachovalo nič písané: nijaká listina miesto nemenuje, nijaká kronika nespomína pramene. Zostalo len to, čo ľudia nechali v zemi a čo odkryl a datoval archeologický výskum. Oplatí sa to mať na pamäti pri ďalšom hesle: prvá písomná zmienka hovorí o listine, nie o tom, kedy sem ľudia prišli.
