Budatín was restored between 2008 and 2013: the round tower reopened to visitors on 13 July 2014 and the interiors followed in August 2016, so a castle that had been half-shut for decades became a working museum again. Its wire collection is now the largest in the world — close to 7,700 pieces. Around the walls lies an English-style landscape park along both rivers, free and open at any hour. Climb the tower and the whole point of the place makes sense in about five seconds: the Kysuca coming in from the north, the Váh swinging past below, the Malá Fatra to the east and the Kysuce hills behind you. Vystúpte na vežu a zmysel celého miesta vám dôjde asi za päť sekúnd: Kysuca prichádzajúca zo severu, Váh stáčajúci sa dolu pod vami, Malá Fatra na východe a za chrbtom kysucké kopce. Ktosi sa v trinástom storočí na ten sútok pozrel a rozhodol sa zaň vyberať poplatok — a všetko ostatné tu z toho vyplýva.
