Budatín CastleBudatínsky zámok
In 1487, in the last years of Matthias Corvinus, Gašpar Suňog became the owner of Budatín, and his family — Szunyogh in the Hungarian records — kept it for over three hundred years, until the line died out in 1798. Three centuries in one family is unusual, and you can read it in the building. Instead of being fought over and patched up by strangers, Budatín was extended, repaired and modernised by people who intended to go on living in it. That is the difference between a fortress and a home, and it is a large part of why the castle survived at all.
