The refinery was nationalised and went on working, and the town stayed what it had been: a factory and the fields that fed it, with the manor house handed over to other uses. In the nineteen-fifties the private strips of land were merged into a collective farm, which is why the fields around the town are now worked in blocks the size of a small village rather than in narrow strips — look at them from the train and you are looking at a decision taken in that decade. Town status, which the place had first held in 1582, was restored in 1983.Cukrovar znárodnili a pracoval ďalej; mesto zostalo tým, čím bolo — továrňou a poliami, ktoré ju živili, s kaštieľom odovzdaným na iné použitie.
