In 1582 the settlement was granted the privileges of a market town — the right to hold fairs and markets, which in this period was the difference between a village and somewhere worth travelling to. The timing is worth noticing. The Ottoman frontier then ran across the lowland not far to the south-east, the great fortress of Nové Zámky was just being finished, and everything the imperial army ate had to be bought somewhere. Grain and cattle from this flat, fertile country went to feed it.Roku 1582 dostala osada výsady mestečka — právo konať jarmoky a trhy, čo v tom čase znamenalo rozdiel medzi dedinou a miestom, kam sa oplatí cestovať. Načasovanie je poučné. Osmanská hranica vtedy viedla cez nížinu neďaleko na juhovýchod, dostavovala sa veľká pevnosť v Nových Zámkoch a všetko, čo cisárske vojsko zjedlo, sa muselo niekde nakúpiť. Obilie a dobytok z tejto rovnej úrodnej krajiny išli živiť práve ju.
