The Mongol invasionVpád Mongolov

The first written mention of Diószeg is in a charter of King Béla IV from 1252. That date sits inside the most important decade in the kingdom's history: the Mongol armies had ridden across this lowland in 1241, the flat country to the south was the worst-hit part of the kingdom, and Béla IV spent the rest of his reign resettling emptied villages and licensing stone castles so that it could not happen again. Nothing says this particular village was destroyed, and nothing should be invented — what the charter proves is that people were here, and that after 1241 the king's clerks were writing everything down. The name is Hungarian: dió means walnut, and the sources connect it to a walnut wood that once grew here.
